While many American adults will experience hearing loss in their lifetime, we thankfully live in a time when that can be remedied or even fully corrected through technology. However, no technology is ever truly one size fits all, and hearing aids are no exception. Each person’s individual needs for their hearing aid will be a little different, and likely they will change over time. If you’ve had your hearing aid for a while, now is a great time to upgrade, especially if you’re experiencing any of the following.
Changes in Hearing
Age-related hearing loss often worsens over time. If you have found that you have more difficulty hearing, especially hearing the TV, hearing in noisy environments, or understanding what people are saying, the odds are good that your hearing is changing and you need to schedule a hearing check with an audiologist. Upgrading your hearing aid to take advantage of the most recent technology can help compensate for any changes in your hearing that you’re experiencing.
Changes in Lifestyle
If you’ve changed jobs, experienced changes in your living arrangements, or picked up new hobbies, you may find that your current hearing aid isn’t working as well as you’d like. It may be that the new environment, like an open concept office or a noisy ball field is the cause of your new troubles, not an actual change in your hearing. The biggest challenge for most hearing aid wearers is distinguishing speech in noisy environments, and new advancements in hearing aid technology can help with this. Upgrading to a newer, more advanced hearing aid might ease your issues.
Changes in Performance
Finally, and perhaps the coolest reason to upgrade is the changes in hearing aid performance. Newer hearing aids can sync to apps on your phone, and the app can remember settings for unique types of environments (like a favorite restaurant for instance) and change the settings for you when you’re in that location based on your GPS. Some also let you stream audio from your devices directly into your hearing aid via Bluetooth. If you haven’t thought about replacing your hearing aid recently, you may not be aware of all of the useful advancements that are out there for you.
