When it comes to hearing aids, there are different types. All of the different types of hearing aids have different benefits and advantages and can serve different needs. To learn more about a few of the different types of hearing aids and all of their unique advantages so you can choose the right one for you, take a look at the handy information below.
In-the-Canal (ITC) and Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC) Aids
These aids are inside a tiny cast which fits either partially or entirely in the ear canal. Amongst different types of hearing aids, these are the tiniest aids available and offer the wearer both cosmetic and listening advantages.
In-the-Ear (ITE) Aids
All parts of ITE aids are contained in a shell that fills the outer part of the ear. These aids are larger than canal aids and, for some people, may be easier to handle than different types of much smaller aids, such as ITC and CIC aids.
Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Aids
All parts of the aid are inside a small plastic case that is put behind the ear. The case is attached to an earmold by a piece of see through tubing. Amongst the different types of aids, this one is often chosen for young children for safety and growth reasons.
Behind-the-Ear Aid: Open Fitting
These include a small plastic case resting behind the ear and a fine clear tube running from it to the ear canal, where a soft silicone dome or acrylic tip holds the tube in place. These aids have listening and cosmetic advantages and are generally used by adults.
Receiver-in-Canal Aids
These look similar to the behind-the-ear hearing aids, however the speaker is placed inside the ear canal, and the acoustic tube of the BTE aid is replaced with a thin electrical wire. These aids, commonly worn by adults, offer cosmetic listening advantages.
