Tips to Protect Your Ears from Damage

Hearing Loss in Adolescents

Keep your ears healthy and sharp with these tips!

Our ears are two very important parts of our body. They give us not only our sense of hearing but of balance as well. It is quite amazing! Being healthy is a huge deal today, and taking care of our ears is just one small part of the whole picture. If you are interested in some tips to protect your ears from damage, read on!

Clean Your Ears the Right Way

Many hearing health authorities are saying to avoid using Q-Tips to clean your ears. If your earwax is wet and you are not sticking it too far into your ear canal, you should have no problem using Q-Tips. However, if you have hardened earwax, using a Q-Tip will just push it in and impact your earwax. Wiping your ear canal with a towel or another gentle tool after a shower is enough to keep your ears clean. Some earwax is okay to have, though, as it moisturizes and protects your ear canals.

Don’t Risk Exposure to Loud Sounds

Exposure to loud noise is one of the major culprits of losing your hearing over time. You can lose your hearing temporarily from exposure to one very loud sound, like a gunshot, or from exposure to constant moderate sounds, like music. Take breaks from listening to music and limit your risk of exposure to loud sounds.

Wear Hearing Protection in Loud Areas

If you are going to be in an environment with loud noise, then it’s better to be safe than sorry. Do not be embarrassed to wear hearing protection! You can wear it when you go to a place with threateningly loud sounds, like a music concert, or when you do tasks like mowing the lawn or using the blender.

Act on Ear Problems Quickly

If you notice an ear problem, like muffled hearing, ear pain, an ear infection, etc., seek a solution immediately. Your ears are worth saving! You can seek your primary doctor or an audiologist if you believe you need medical attention.
